Eagle Scout Project Helps People Experiencing Homelessness

Aubry Vonck • Dec 15, 2021

When Jarron started brainstorming what to do for his Eagle Scout Service Project, he knew he wanted his project to focus on health and medicine. An aspiring physician, Jarron recognizes the importance of preventative care and wanted to provide that for people experiencing homelessness. That’s why he decided to assemble first aid kits for people experiencing homelessness.

Jarron’s project was approved in May 2021. He worked hard soliciting donations from family and friends including Ziploc bags, Band-Aids, antibiotic ointment, alcohol wipes, electrolyte packets, and more. This fall, he reserved a room at the Weekley Community Center in Cypress for an all-day kit-packing event. Jarron set up an assembly line for more than 30 Scouts, parents, siblings, and friends to assist in carefully packing 550 kits complete with personalized messages.

Jarron was thrilled with the turnout at his event and proud to have assembled 550 bags with the help of his Scout community. In November, Jarron and his grandmother joined the Coalition’s outreach team to distribute 100 of the bags to individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness in downtown Houston.

It’s because of thoughtful and hard-working volunteers like Jarron that the Coalition and more than 100 partner agencies of The Way Home can continue our work serving and housing individuals experiencing homelessness. We appreciate Jarron’s admirable efforts and congratulate him on a successful Eagle Scout Service Project!
