World Homeless Day is observed internationally on October 10th to bring focus to the issues of homelessness and inadequate housing. The issue of homelessness is systemic; its primary causes are lack of affordable housing, poverty, and discrimination. And yet, Houston has decreased overall homelessness by 20% since 2018, and housed more than 30,000 people since 2012 with 90% of those people maintaining long-term stability.

How? Through the Coalition for the Homeless’ system leadership that drives collaboration, builds the capacity of our service partners, and ensures that our region’s homeless response system has the housing and resources needed to achieve our vision of a community where everyone has a safe place to call home. However, in our region there are still 3,200 people in need of a safe place to call home tonight.
