As many of you know, October was National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  The Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County hosted a Lunch & Learn information session at the United Way of Greater Houston on Friday, October 18 on the issue of domestic violence and homelessness.  Presenters Abeer Monem, Director of Programs with Fort Bend County Women’s Center; and Barbie Brashear, Executive Director of the Harris County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council educated attendees on domestic violence risk factors, specific definitions of domestic violence, and how domestic violence can be a trigger of homelessness.

The response from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, and our presenters were generous enough to share the presentation with us to make it available to you.  Please click here to download the PowerPoint presentation, “Intersection Between Domestic Violence and Homelessness.”  If you have questions regarding future Lunch & Learn sessions, please contact Gary Grier, Project Manager at ggrier@homelesshouston.org or 832-531-6006.
