As the weather gets colder and the holidays approach, the Coalition for the Homeless is working to compile a list of ways that community members can help their homeless neighbors in Houston, Harris County, and Fort Bend County.

If you know of an opportunity for in-kind donations or holiday volunteer service, contact Sara Brown at sbrown@homelesshouston.org with relevant information.

The Montrose Center

Salvation Army Young Adult Resource Center (YARC)
The Young Adult Resource Center (YARC) is in need of travel size personal hygiene items (deoderant is a big need, as well as soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes), socks and undershirts, thermal items and beanies/knitted caps. To coordinate donations, email Aaron Hillard at aaron.hillard@uss.salvationarmy.org. The YARC serves as a drop-in center for homeless young adults, providing them with connections to housing and other vital services. You can find out more information about the YARC on their Facebook page.

St. Joseph House
St. Joseph House is a clubhouse for adults with mental illness. They are in need of 50 jackets this holiday season. You can visit their webpage for more information, or email David Earl Snider Jr. for more information and to donate.

Wellsprings Village
Wellsprings Village is in great need of twin sheet sets. They also need vacuum cleaners, household cleaning supplies, laundry and/or dish detergent, microwaves, light bulbs, and other household items for survivors of Domestic Violence. You can email Cheryl Pratts for more information or visit their webpage.
