    • Ambassadors for Christ increases young people's safety, social and emotional well-being, and self-sufficiency; and helps them build permanent connections with families, communities, schools, and other positive social networks by: Providing services for runaway and homeless youth and the families of such youth; Establishing an alternative to involving runaway and homeless youth in the law enforcement, child welfare, mental health, and juvenile justice systems; Providing safe and appropriate shelter for runaway and homeless youth; Providing individual, family, and group counseling; and by reuniting youth with their families when appropriate.

    • Career and Recovery Resources, Inc., (CRR) is a nonprofit, multi-service, United Way of Greater Houston agency. They help with outpatient counseling, employment services, and have a rehousing program. Regarding employment services, they help to empower job seekers with job readiness training, career guidance, job placement assistance, job retention counseling, and employment-related supportive services. Their specialized programs include persons who are skilled and unskilled workers, homeless, deaf or hearing-impaired, ex-offenders, older workers, persons challenged by a disability, and individuals recovering from substance use disorder. Many clients are economically disadvantaged and need intensive employment services with case management to overcome these obstacles. However, they also assist professionals who are highly skilled or possess college degrees, but need guidance to enter their chosen fields, change careers, or transfer skills to another source of employment.

    Magnificat Houses, Inc

    • Magnificat Houses, Inc. is a faith-based nonprofit charitable organization that owns multiple houses in central Houston for longer-term stay. Placement into certain houses revolves around need. They do take walk-ins. Individuals can also call and set up an in-person interview to apply for placement in a house. Residents will get to help out in some way - through maintenance, gardening, food services, wood-work, clerical work, etc. Residents with a mental health diagnosis are also welcome and encouraged to become member of the St. Joseph House, a psycho-social rehabilitative day program for adults. Children are NOT allowed.

    Modest Family Health

    • Modest Family Health Care Center provides shelter to homeless single men and single women who may have a mental disability. Allowed length of stay depends on circumstances involved. Clients must either have a job or be trying to find a job for longer stay.

    Star of Hope Men's Development Center

    • Star of Hope's Men's Development Center houses over 300 men nightly and provides emergency and residential programs. Intake is from 8-11am and again from 1-3pm. They can reach capacity so late arrivals may have to be turned away. Clients should bring some form of ID (if they have none, they will be referred to a place that will give them acceptable ID). Length of stay is on a case-by-case basis. At times, due to extreme weather, the center will go into an overflow mode and accommodate up to 100 additional clients. Chapel services and meals are offered three times a day. Showers and a clean change of clothing are also provided.

    Myriam's Hostel (above Loaves and Fishes)

    • Myriam's is part of the Magnifcat Houses, Inc organization, and is a 3-day emergency shelter. Clients may arrive by 3pm for intake between 3:30-4:30pm. Only the first 6 women are taken. Dinner and breakfast are provided, and residents must be out by 7am. Children are NOT allowed.

    Salvation Army Jones Residence

    • The Salvation Army’s Jones Residence is a housing program designed to transition homeless women and families back into the community. Jones Residence provides case management, childcare, job skills training, substance abuse counseling, job placement, and referral to resources when needed. While residents stay at the Jones Residence, adults and children are invited to participate in a full schedule of classes and counseling designed to address the underlying causes of homelessness and facilitate healing in a nurturing environment. Through this work, our residents have the necessary tools to return to independence. Children are offered counseling, tutoring, and childcare services, as well as school uniforms. They also participate in field trips, parties, and summer day camps. This housing program is unique in that it keeps both parents together during the process. After families and women transition out of Jones Residence, case managers offer household goods, items meeting practical and spiritual needs, and 12 months of case management follow-up.

    Bay Area Homeless Services

    • Bay Area Homeless emergency shelter provides separate men’s and women’s dormitories, along with three meals a day. New clients are accepted between 9am and 4pm daily. Individual case management plans are provided shortly after intake. Transportation is provided for job searching processes (employment interviews, resume critiques, on-the-job readiness training). Clients participate in training activities along with routine household chores.

    Family Promise of Lake Houston

    • Family Promise of Lake Houston is a 90-120 day Self-Sufficiency Program for homeless families with children. They provide individual counseling, Budget Coach, Life Skills Coach, employment training, Fast Track GED, a two-year After Care Program, overnight accommodations, and meals. All adults must work and participate fully in all aspects of the program. Children will be enrolled in school or a daycare program. They are a sober program. There is no public transportation in the area, therefore all adults must have a valid drivers license and be able to drive a car. Please visit their website above for more information.

    Family Promise of Montgomery County

    • Family Promise of Montgomery County is a 90-day program providing families in need with shelter, meals, transportation, and other assistance. Families are required to work full-time and take the necessary steps to become independent and self-sufficient, while children must be enrolled in school and/or child care programs. Family income is held in a Client Savings Account during the program, and released as a savings account upon exiting the program.     • Salvation Army's Montgomery County Corps is the only shelter in Montgomery County with overnight lodging for homeless men and women. Short-term financial assistance and social activities are available for low-income families and the elderly. Educational, recreational, and spiritual mentoring programs are provided for youth.

    • Star of Hope Family shelter can house up to 300 guests in 71 rooms. Allowed stay is up to 90 days. The facility also houses a medical clinic, licensed daycare, pre-school area, teen activity room, computer learning center, and volunteers come daily to assist children with homework and enrichment activities. Adult residents are required to perform household chores and attend motivational classes that are based on Christian principles.

    • Mission of Yahweh offers emergency and transitional housing and does not take walk-ins. Individuals must first call and set up an in-person or phone interview. They provide food and clothing to residents, along with services to help individuals resume a self-sufficient life.

    Sarah's House

    • Sarah's House is a shelter for women and women with children. Women in need of shelter may call between the hours of 3pm-8pm for a prescreen and be put on the waiting list. Must have valid ID, be sober for a minimum of 30 days, and cannot be fleeing an abuser due to safety concerns.

    Bridge Over Troubled Waters

    • The Bridge exists to assist women, children and men in crisis, particularly those who have been affected by domestic violence, sexual assault or homeless situations. They can make referrals and provide information even if you reside outside of Harris County. Women and children are granted initial stay in the emergency shelter for up to 30 days and then may apply for an extension through a caseworker provided they are working on goals. Criteria for initial entry includes referral from The Bridge or another emergency shelter, GED or plan to obtain one while participating in the program, some source of income, and if seeking permanent housing must have documented physical or mental disability as well.

    FamilyTime Crisis & Counseling Center

    • FamilyTime provides free counseling and support groups for victims of abuse, a 24-hour crisis helpline, hospital accompaniment for victims of abuse by trained advocates, legal advocacy about issues stemming from abuse, parenting education and anger management classes. Their shelter, called The Door, houses up to 38 victims of abuse and their children.

    Fort Bend Women's Center

    • As a United Way of Greater Houston Agency, Fort Bend Women’s Center offers many services including: a 24-hour crisis hotline, an emergency shelter, rape crisis services, safety planning, and lethality assessment, food and clothing, emergency and basic medical services, counseling, transportation, case management, legal accompaniment and advocacy, children’s programs, a learning resource center, computer training, job readiness, financial empowerment, parenting and self-esteem building workshops.

    Houston Area Women's Center

    • The Houston Area Women's Center helps individuals affected by domestic and sexual violence in their efforts to move their lives forward. They provide shelter, counseling and advocacy to support them in building lives free from the effects of violence. They seek social change to end domestic and sexual violence through community awareness and education. Their services are confidential and available to everyone.

    Montgomery County Women's Center

    • MCWC provides emergency shelter to abused women and children along with individual counseling, legal advocacy, support groups, education and childcare while they begin their healing process and seek employment. Food, clothing, limited medical treatment, and personal care items are also provided. Shelter services are available for a maximum of 45 days with two-week extension if there is an expectation of permanent or transitional housing. Call for shelter access. They also offer a transitional housing option called Reaching Pines for those who qualify (must be employed for at least one month, be free of addiction, pay rent based on a sliding scale, attend meetings with case managers, have their own transportation).

    • If you are in an abusive relationship and are transgender or in a same-sex relationship, the Center can help you find emergency shelter and assist with transitional housing if you qualify.

    Covenant House

    • Covenant House is an 80-bed emergency shelter available 24-hours for youth in need. Along with shelter, they offer free meals, anonymous and confidential HIV testing, STD testing, HIV prevention counseling and education, job skills programs, mental health services, and substance abuse services. If accepted into the Rights of Passage program, residents live in semi-independence at Covenant House for up to 18 months while learning how to do their own shopping, cooking, cleaning, finances, etc.
