“Building on Each Others’ Strengths” was the theme of the Coalition for the Homeless’ April 12, 2011 Faith Breakfast, and the success of the event and enthusiastic response of those gathered to forge closer collaborations in our community fight against homelessness further reinforced this message.

Approximately 150 clergy, lay and community leaders, and homeless service providers representing a broad spectrum of faiths assembled at the Junior League of Houston for a morning of inspirational and thoughtful presentations given by Rabbi Mark J. Miller, Associate Rabbi, Congregation Beth Israel; Connie S. Boyd, President/CEO, Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County (view Connie Boyd’s presentation); and Dr. Patricia Gail Bray, Executive Director and Chief Administrative and Academic Officer, St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities (view Dr. Gail Bray’s presentation). Pastor Rudy Rasmus, spiritual leader of St. John’s United Methodist Church as well as founder of Bread of Life and Temenos Community Development Corporation, was the keynote speaker. The event was produced in collaboration with Interfaith Ministries, St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities, and Alliance of Community Assistance Ministries (ACAM), three organizations dedicated to serving our vulnerable neighbors in the Greater Houston area.

The Coalition will continue to build on the strengths of our partners through targeted outreach to the faith community. To sign up for faith-focused e-mail alerts, please contact Robyn Schwartz. Please also notify Robyn if you or a member of your congregation is interested in taking on a leadership role as we convene area faith leaders to strengthen collaboration around homeless issues.
